WIT

                                                     Where I'm up to in my WIT


My group is made of 4 people, their names are Ashley, Zalia, Daina and myself. Our WIT is about volunteering for a community project that will have a good impact on others. (WIT means wildly inportant task.)
We were inspired by Ellie, Sarah and Nikyla from Kahikatea for doing a Ngamotu beach clean up to stop people from polluting in our oceans so we all thought that would be a great way to volunteer for this WIT.

First we had to get in our groups and complete our needs statements and questions together then we got started since Ngamotu beach was run by the district council we had to call them which we were al nervous about doing... THEY SAID YES, for Monday the 27th we are all going down to Ngamotu beach to pick up rubbish.

We are going to have to bring plastic bags which Zalia is bringing, Daina's bringing bug spray hand sanitizer Ashley's providing gloves for everyone and I'm bring some spear gloves just in case.

Is Milk Healthy For You Or Not?

In my opinion Milk is healthy, Kids can be drinking milk every day trim milk is the milk that I’m writing about it has the green lid.

By my calculation milk is healthy because the sugars are 4.9g, the fat is 0.4g and the sodium is 35mg.  The World Health Organisation sets this as a healthy food product as the numbers are under 10g per 100g for fat and sugar and under 400mg per 100mg for sodium.  Milk clearly ticks all the boxes.

From the label of the milk bottle the company does not lie about this product being healthy and it is good for our bones, teeth and our health development.

Our milk on the food pyramid comes on the dairy column (protein), which we have to have some each day.  milk is also from cows so it has been produced from a factory.

I therefore believe that milk is very healthy for kids to drink.

I think that Wine biscuits are the best biscuits in New Zealand

I reckon wine biscuits are the best because I love them dipped into a cup of tea, the tea makes them taste good and makes it nice and soft.

I like Chocolate fudge because the chocolate is oozy when it is drizzled on the top.

And I like Chocolate fudge when it is warm with whipped cream straight out of the oven.

Lolly cake (slice)

Lolly cake is really good because I like all the different flavours of lollies. 

Lolly cake is also yummy because the lollies bakes inside make it look DELICIOUS! like a rainbow.

And I love Lolly cake because my Mum can make it really well.

In my opinion I think the Wine biscuits are the best and should win for the best biscuits in New Zealand. Wine biscuits are the best out of the Chocolate fudge and Lolly cake because there healthy and the flavor is good.

Aimee and Zalia dialogue #2

We made this dialogue because we like two character stories and what happens in them. Have we used dialogue correctly in this story?

Staring:Cat(Aimee)

and Turtle (Zalia)

Turtle:

“How you doing Cat?” Asked the Turtle

Cat:

*snoring*

Turtle:

“CAT WAKE UP I’M TALKING TO YOU!!!!!” Yelled the Turtle

Cat:

“OH, sorry ” Yawned the Cat

Turtle:

“I was trying to say, let’s go for a walk around the block because you definitely need to get some exercise”

Cat:

“UGH do I have to?!” mumbled the Cat

Turtle:

“Yes you do now hurry up!!!” urged the Turtle

Cat:

“OK, Ok  just  stop talking”

Turtle:

“Okay then let's go” said the Turtle excitedly.

The Cat picked up the turtle and rested him on her back they then trotted out for a walk, after they were done they headed back home and ate, after they had finished eating they fell asleep together.

For my wit we did a slideshow. Our wit was based on

identifying invertebrates in the Frankley School Bush.Ashley and Zalia were in my group. Our task was to make a child-friendly resource.We made up to 26
slides at least so that our target group could observe and be taken to a number of possible links.  They thought that it was pretty cool.I thought our group did very good.Sometimes my group would be away and so I had to work by myself but that was fine, as I am an independent learner and followed comments from the teachers.

Is fun. In cross country I came 5th.

I was so tired after my race I had the stitch.My goal for next year is to try to come 1/2 or 3.

My Holiday in Vanuatu

My writing goal is to spell the essential words correctly in my writing.

I went to Vanuatu we stayed at Iririki island with Mum,Bill, Connor, Corbin, Ben, Lucas, Nana, Poppa and leons. we kayaked around iririki island. Me and Bill went snorkeling 15 feet deep we also took some bread and feed all the fish we saw nemo and dory it was so fun. For dinner the first night we all went to a restaurant on the main island port vela. Me Mum,Bill, Connor, Corbin and Ben went ziplining through the jungle while nana,poppa and lucas were at the main island. We went over same water and we all got a shirt. I also went swimming under a ginormous stunning water full i jumped off of a platform. Me,mum,Bill,Ben Connor and Corbin went snorkeling at hideaway island there was an under water post office so we sent a card home the card arrived on friday the 27 of July. We also visited a school and gave them some colored paper and colored pencils they sang a song it was great. In that same day we also went to eton beach Bill went snorkeling while we found shells and hermit crabs then we all went to blue lagoon there was a rope that you swig off of and into the clear water I went so high it was fabulous. I went to the markets and got my hair braided I got a shirt with a turtle on it the turtle was paid I also got a bracelet it's a chain with rainbow string threaded through it. I went to a turtle exhibit with 8 months old toddlers and 60 year old turtles.

We are up to planning our resource for our wit.our wit is to create a child- friendly resource to give to a class in Frankley school about invertebretes (bugs & insects) in the Frankley Bush.

We would like to come down to your classroom if it is okay and observe and conference with a couple of your kids about questions that link to our Invertebrates in the Frankley School bush WIT.  

Example of our questions: Do you like reading on a computer or off of a book? Why?  Do you like making stuff out of materials or just doing it straight on a computer? and  Why? Do you like writing or typing?  What kind of books can you read?  Could you please read us one of your stories from your book box?

Lady Bug Information Report

I learnt about how to write an information report using the hamburger plan.  I chose to study lady bugs as part of our WIT about invertebrates and learnt heaps of interesting facts.  See if you can learn something new and enjoy reading my report.

Ohhh...what's that beautiful creature?

Did you know that there are 5000 different species of ladybugs in the world? But the ladybugs that we commonly have in New Zealand are the Coccinellidae septempunctata (Seven-Pot Ladybird).

Habitat

Ladybugs love to go in gardens on top of the soil or even on a plant. Their other habitat is on a field on the soft grass and in forests. They sit on a wet leaf for their own health to keep themselves moist.  They also like going into the Frankley School bush.  In the winter, ladybugs hibernate under leaves and in logs. Ladybugs like to live on leaves that are close to aphids, which are part of the diet.  

Diet

Ladybugs have a diet of aphids, mites, whiteflies, little insects like ants, jumping spiders, and soft body insects. Female ladybugs eat 75 aphids a day..e Ladybugs have a diet mostly of aphids, which are Even larvae ladybugs eat aphids.                        

Protection

Ladybugs play dead when trying to avoid danger so they don’t die.  Predators such as assassin bugs, stink bugs, spiders and toads may commonly kill ladybugs.  Ladybugs’ colours can warn you if ladybugs are in danger.

Did you know between spring and summer a single female ladybug may produce up to 1,000 eggs?  Also when a ladybug flies, its’ wings beat 85 times every second.  Those are some pretty amazing statistics!
